If We Loved Each Other Well
I look at you and wonder
What kind of spell I'm under
Why does it feel like thunder when you look at me?
What if we talked for hours
What if I gave you flowers
How would we tap the power that sets us free?
It's so appealing to confuse one another
With the things we discover inside of ourselves
I get the feeling that we're not where we should be
And I wonder what we could be if we loved each other well
I might have called you "Brother"
But now we've hurt each other
There's no way to recover from all of this pain
I guess I could forgive you
And you could forgive me, too
But I could never live through taking the blame
It's so appealing to confuse one another
With the things we uncover inside of ourselves
I get the feeling that we're not where we should be
And I wonder what we could be if we loved each other well
Some folks are apprehensive
Cause my presence is offensive
They don't think that we can live together here
They say they can't explain those
Who do not wear the same clothes
They don't believe in rainbows. They think they're queer.
It's so appealing to confuse one another
With the things we discover inside of ourselves
I get the feeling that we're not where we should be
And I wonder what we could be if we loved each other well
